Anyone else a bit worried about "elemental guns"
I dunno, seems a bit childish to me to include lightning guns, and if they're going for gritty and realistic, acid bullets might not be the best avenue to stroll down. Although its a sci-fi game, i'm not sure i want that much fi. What do you guys think of the color coded effects
i guess it must be necessary to differentiate between all the guns, but i'm still not too sure about it
Very well put L3V1.
Why should we be scared of the elemental guns? Think of how many guns would disappear if they went away. Besides, you can always just not use them if you don't like them.
its not that i won't enjoy using them, its the fact that a sniper rifle that shoots electricity is in a game that sells itself of gritty realism. Perhaps i was a bit harsh to call it childish, but electro-gun does not scream realism to me
and though i'm aware of technological advances, i do not believe that a military would use that much money to create a gun that kills just like bullets.
perhaps they will tone down the color coding and the IMO "over the top" effects shown when firing the gun
like the bright blue sniper rifle shown in the E3 2008 gameplay vid, that has a bright blue barrel, blue detail on the scope, a blue revolver, not to mention the blue orb larger than an enemy that is expelled when the gun is fired
i just don't want that in the game
it won't affect my opinion of the game greatly, its just a suggestion
That ain't happening they're on an alien planet
Have you seen the Raaks, the Raak HIve and the Skags??
This game is not going for realism
EVERY shooter has guns that just fire bullets, only variation is size of the bullet and how fast the gun fires. Now I got a gun that shoots bullets that explode on impact? A shotgun that not only sprays shrapnel but acid too? And a sniper rifle that shocks and stuns my enemy AND drains there sheild at the same time? Sweetness. The electrical effect proves that Gearbox isn't just looking at the elemental effects as fun toy to play around with (even though thats mostly what it is) but they are also looking at it from a more realistic and tactical approach. Sure a gun that fires elemental properties isnt currently logical or even possible, but atleast they are looking at it from the point of view of "what would happen if they could?" perspective.
i like the guns
i don't like their presentation
sure its fun to use them, i don't doubt that
i just hope that the guns end up looking functional, rather than seeming it
Thats sounds like a logical concern then. Im right there with you. I don't wanna pick up what looks like old western colt six shooter and have it inexplicably shoot out a 6ft jet of fire either. :)
No, I think that if anything they will be better in all ways then the regular guns.I mean watching a guy's face melt of once shot with an acid gun, wouldn't that be awsome?Or making a man catch of fire just by shooting him.EPIC!!!!!!
I'm assuming the elemental guns still fire a balistic projectile for the most part. It's just an impact effect. So rather than firing a lead ball, you're firing an acid canister, or a tazer unit, or a phopherous glob. Fundimentally it's still a projectile though.

That's like saying you want HP to take on heavily armored targets. The guns aren't magical; it's the same as using a dagger with the point dipped in poison, or many other things along those line.
The technology has been invented; use what is available to you. We have incendiary rounds now. Technology from the others isn't that far off.
In addition, having the "elemental" damage (or not) on a gun does not make it unique. From what we know so far, minor variations in stats, scopes, stocks, blades, and additional damage types do not affect the name of a weapon. That huge number is the number of uniquely "named" weapons. They're 4,000 possible variation within a single unique weapon if there are even only: four additional damage types, ten scopes in the game, ten stocks, and ten blades.
You shouuld also keep in mind that this game is science-fiction because it is not non-fiction. If it were a non-fiction game, assuming that is possible, it would be very little fun to those who are outside the esoteric group who could possibly enjoy it. Those who are within that group understanding the arcane knowledge of advanced scientific concepts are unlikely to waste time with trivalities such as videogames. The exceptions to those assumptions would make up such a small base that it wouldn't even be worth pursuing an real effort into the production of a game like it was going to be a AAA title, in which case a self-fulfulling prophecy of destruction is created.
The content of all games, regardless of how realistic they claim to be, are 100% fictional.
What you see to be asking for is a game taking place centuries in the future with little to no technological advancements from modern times. That game does not sound interesting to me.
