Looks like the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has rated Boarderlands with an 18 age rating:

Not sure what the age rating will be in other regions, but as I am in England, this was the one I came across. Even though it is by the BBFC who do films, they also do some video games too.

Interesting....

Also slightly irrelevant for me since i'm 18+ >.<
But I do wonder why it gets that rating?

in an earlier interview, i

in an earlier interview, i have no idea when or which interview so sorry i can't like post something to be like here it is. but im like 99% sure Randy said that it would have an M rating here in the states. so id think everywhere it would be an 17-18+ game. but then again, look at how easy it is for kids to get games, look at halo, m-rated, and look at all those kids on it haha. I wouldn't be surprised to find kids playing leisure suit larry... haha :)

For also irrelevant, as I am

For me it is also irrelevant, as I am too over 18, but yeah, it seems slightly strange to get such a rating, as from the vids, the gore and violence doesn't seem that excessive in comparison to some games.

But yeah, age ratings doesn't stop kids these days at all. That's what annoys me the most, when playing a game like L4D online and hearing these high pitched kids moaning over the mic, which leaves me thinking, they shouldn't even be playing this game. ¬_¬

I think games should be rated on a mental maturity level rather than phsyical age, as there are kids that can put the content into context and can be really great to play with as they can be mature and not annoying, in addition to there being people over the age limit who can be awful too.

i completely agree with you

i completely agree with you Spongekvlt. For instance i was playing Cod4 once, and i heard this high pitched voice in my headset, well i was immediately excited, there was a girl on the game! see you have to understand i don't think i had heard a girl on it before, only to later realize after listening to them talk a bit more, she was a he, and i was dissappointed :( hahaha. but yea, i completely agree with you. especially when the game is something like L4D, and requires teamwork, sometimes people of both agegroups make playing as a team very hard.

@Sponge

I agree, HOWEVER, problem is, theres no testing system existing, and none that would be (morally and widely) accepted as fair to determine someones mental maturity.
=(
Can we have a "Call the parent" button installed though please?

"Call the Parent Button"!!!!!

"Call the Parent Button"!!!!! I LOVE that idea!!! One day, we can hope. :D Although it makes me laugh when you hear their parents shouting at the kids through the headset or something like that.

but as for the violence and gore if you watch this   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBPgQ0XF6Os    and look at some of their kills, especially towards the beginning, you can see, when they electricuted them their skulls game off and brains melted away on the ground, a guy shot with acid had his face melt off, and ect ect. its just different kind of violence and gore :) haha

It's pretty clearly a violent

It's pretty clearly a violent game, like what herosresolve just said.  Decapitation, gibs, bloody explosions, etc.  Not to mention the different effects the guns have.  And we haven't heard much in-game enemy chatter, so there might be strong lnguage.  There might be little power-up items in the form of drugs(see: Fallout 3), but I doubt there'll be any sex or anything.

Frankly, I would have been disappointed if BL got anything other than M.

And as for kids who are clearly too young playing violent games, the fault rests entirely with the parents.  Games have ratings for a reason.  Here's an exaggerated example:

Parent: "I'm suing the makers of GTA4 for causing my 8 year old child to go out and steal cars and murder hookers!"

Rockstar: "It says Rated M for Mature very clearly on the box, ma'am.  You shouldn't have bought it for your kid."

Parent: "I shouldn't be expected to have to read all that!  There just shouldn't be games like that on the market!"

And so on.  God, I hate people like that.

Man, that shit happens all

Man, that shit happens all the time, and people blame it on the violent video games that those kids are inevitably playing.  But I think that if you go out and do something like that just because you did it in a game, it pretty clearly means that there's something wrong with you anyway.  I hate it when people blame every act of violence on games.

When Mass Effect came out, did you guys see that whole brouhaha about the sex scene?  And then Fox "News" had Geoff Keighley on to talk about it, and then stomped all over him, and didn't give him a fair chance to say anything?  Made me RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGEEEEE damn hard.  Such bullshit.  Here's a link if you haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0kdm7fg804&feature=related
