Gearbox has definitely sold plenty of copies of Borderlands. It's been a huge success for them, and it's one my favorite games by far. I can only hope for a sequel, however I hope they add a couple of things (granted, this is a tall order, and would take a massive amount of space on a blu-ray disc for PS3 or a dvd for Xbox360/PC, probably along with a lot of installation time).

1. Increased Variation/Dynamic-ness

I love the game's random loot generating engine. However, I was slightly disappointed when I first got the game. Before it came out, I heard a lot about randomized enemies, and even landscape details. I found the game to be slightly lacking in this respect. For instance, there's only one way for rocket launchers to reload (with that weird clip thing). Why can't some reload like RPG's? Or some like AT-4's? On that note, why do all the guns of one category look the same? It would be kind of cool if some snipers looked like WA-2000's or some SMG's looked like UMP's. And what about other kinds of guns (grenade launchers, anyone)? And with the landscape, I had heard some stuff about randomized enemy camp size, locations, designs and the like. For the sake of consistency, I can understand some stuff remaining in one spot, but I also think it would be cool if enemies took stuff down and put stuff up while I'm not playing (bunker here today, lookout tower there tomorrow). The same sort of randomization goes for environments (what about jungles, cityscapes, or oceans/underwaterishness), enemies (more kinds of psychos? Brutes/bruisers with shields? Sniper enemies?), etc. While I'm on the topic, why does each character have to have one melee weapon the whole game? I think melee weapons would be cool as loot items like the guns (e.g.: "YUSS!! I just found a lazer sword!! It has twice the reach and speed of my lead pipe with x3 flame damage!). And how about a euphoria enemy AI, like SW:TFU (Euphoria is a program that attempts to give enemies virtual nervous systems)? Or ragdoll physics instead of a holographic representation of a dead enemy?

2. Customization?

One of the things I love most about the RPG genre is the depth of customization and gameplay they afford. I missed this in Borderlands. Instead of having one set of characters, I would really really enjoy being able to choose a class, and then create the character from the ground up in appearance, like Saint's Row 2 or Dragon Age: Origins. Same goes for vehicles. It would be really cool to see some air vehicles, custom paint jobs, or more vehicle weapons. Maybe even using your character's guns instead of the turret? I don't know. But vehicle customization could be deeper. What enemy vehicles dropped vehicle weapons or vehicle boosters or vehicle shields instead of infantry weapons? And what if you could get class mods for your vehicle, too? All this customization would make online a lot more fun, since you could see what other people's characters and cars looked like, and things like that.

3. DESTRUCTIBILITY!

Oh destructibility. What's not to love? Take Red Faction for example (maybe Gearbox should too). I could enjoy that game with or without story. It's endlessly fun to just run and gun and topple buildings, which have realistically calculated stress points and strengths. Different materials break differently, and different weapons break materials differently in that game. And by destructibility I absolutely do not mean the Frostbite engine from BFBC2; if you play that for a little while, you'll realize buildings collapse the same way every time, and concrete walls break the same way every time when under fire. Red Faction-esque destruction would mesh nicely in with the random guns, which could have an additional penetration/force stat (SMG's would be low, rocket launchers high). This would also be really cool in combination with the dynamic environments, meaning you could go tear up a bandit shanty town and come back the next day to find that they salvaged the metal from it and built a fortress. A little bit of something like the Lucas Arts' DMM system would be cool too (for those of you who don't know, that's the software in Star Wars: the Force Unleashed that made metal bend like metal, wood snap like wood, and glass shatter like glass. All matter broke the way it does in real life).

4. Multiplayer

I think we can unanimously agree that Borderlands really got co-op right. It's so much fun to play with friends, especially since you get better loot, more loot, and you have to fight stronger/more enemies. But competitive multiplayer is arguably lacking. Sure, you can duel and enter arenas, but what if there was team- and map-based competitive multiplayer? An interesting thought—matches would be organized around a certain level range (e.g. only players between the levels of 45-50 could join this match), and everyone would start with no weapons. Both initial spawn points could be full of weapon crates, and there would be a scramble for everyone to fill out their four weapon slots. Beyond that, it would be basic team deathmatch, CTF, or capture/defend mania. Of course, action abilities would have to be slightly scaled to be balanced when playing multiplayer.

Other stuff that would be nice:

-Shorter load times

-A cover system

-Better storyline/stronger plot (with a more fulfilling ending)

-More fluid transitions between areas (Knoxx's use of the highway thing would be cool, except you have to load new areas, and for a long time too)

-Better competitive multiplayer (or at least wagers in money or guns over duels to resolve loot disputes)

-A trading option for loot

-A system that rates guns based on their stats, and puts the rating in the gun info thing

-Elemental guns should be more rare

-Better enemy/boss/mission difficulty scaling (I blew threw the first playthrough dying only a handful of times)

-More NPC's for the single player experience (and more people in general too for that matter)

-Neutral A.I.s? (e.g. guards around New Haven that only attack you if you attack them)

-More flora/fauna... The game feels a little lonely sometimes with the general lack of NPC's, people, wildlife, and the like.

I realize putting all these together would be an astronomical feat, but imagine if Gearbox took note of this, or even parts of it!

yep

yeah i agree it would be better with that stuff.

About the trade thing you can just drop stuff and ur friend drop stuff and pick up  something of thier's and they pick something of your's.

But otherwise i totally agree!

My BoarderLands2 WishList:

1. I would like to see a vehicle that can fly.

2. Be able to use a Devastator like Knox.

3. A good multiplayer deathmatch setting with leaderboards (I don't count the crappy few places they have now).

4. How about a Boss thats hard to kill.

5. Let me keep my current character/weapons/items and just continue in the next game

6. A bigger city with more stores and options would be cool , Cloths and accessories for your character would be nice.

7. An easier way to compare my guns lol, going threw all your guns to make sure you have the best one is a pain in the ass after awhile. Maybe just highlight the best option in my inventory for me.

8. Multi-Planet maps

9. How about a more full-filling ending to the game!!!! WTF was The Vault? I spend all that time to get there and felt Jipped when it was all done, Seriously? Did they just get sick of making the game and say Screw it we don't need an awesome ending sequence?

10. DON'T CHANGE ANY OF MY CONTROLS!!! I hate when games change basic stuff that wasn't broken, Gears of War2 made this mistake by changing the strength of your shotgun and some other weapons.

Well thats the stuff I can think of for now,

frankwest...

read your stuff on customization in the arsenal post...

I think you misunderstood what I meant by customizing guns. Im not talking about changing their stats, Im talking solely about separate scopes and things like that. Scopes, while nice, don't really affect how powerful a gun is. Scopes are more aesthetic (e.g. some prefer red dot sights and some holographic in mw2). And as for character customization, I meant only their appearance.

I just spoke about customizing guns...

A scope ??? If you start complaining about a scope, other material are concerned too, Scope are not only nice to see, take a shotgun as an exemple, when using the scope it adds more accuracy (not that much but still), so accuracy should be another element to take care of ?!

Leave that to a more RPG Oriented game cause in Borderlands the IA does an amazing job generating weapons that no other game is capable of, adding the possibilities of finding different parts of guns would greatly reduce the amount of guns generated and specially the wonder of finding something amazing.

One of the most enthousiatic things about Borderlands is the search of a better weapons, if you put this appart not only you reduce the charm of it, but also you reduce the time you spend on the game, making it easier to achieve (since everybody is able to get closer to a better weapon), so less difficulties overall... And when you'll ear a guy online who's telling you (with his modded guns, most of the time he doesn't know he have modded weapons) "I just have the best stuff around, so I don't look for other weapons" you'll understand and you'll think that is very sad...

So by doing this you will kill one of the most important things in Borderlands : Hunt for the greatest weapon.

That's it...

I wouldn't mind on being able to have more specific way to customize your character ;)

Haha yeah I see what you are

Haha yeah I see what you are saying. I'm not complaining that attachmentslike scopes, for instance, aren't included separately. I'm merely musing about the possibility (my main arguments on customization were character appearance, vehicle appearance, and vehicle weaponry; the gun thing was more of a side thought). To the contrary, this would further exploit the AI weapon generator, which could now generate scopes and things too ("hunt for the greatest weapon," and for the greatest attachments?).

At any rate, putting a scope on a shotgun doesn't increase its accuracy; it only gives you a different way to target/look at an enemy when you are firing the gun from your shoulder. A scope is just a scope. An M4 with a red-dot sight is still an M4. I'm not talking about reducing Borderlands' charm by doing away with weapon hunting; weapon hunting would become more complex, with new stuff to look for. Scopes and the like are strictly aesthetic and physical, they don't change the accuracy of, in your example, a shotgun.

I think the thing that you saw that gave you that impression was when I said that adding foregrips as attachments would be cool. I agree with your point on this (and have changed my mind about attachments like foregrips), since foregrips would change accuracy. Let me clarify by saying that I mainly had in mind the sights and scopes, which do nothing to the accuracy in the game, which is still controlled by the stat-generating AI. Putting a different sight on a sniper with an accuracy of 75% doesn't change the fact that its accuracy is 75%. Don't mix my idea with the "arsenal" character idea. I too disagree with the idea of modding the stats of guns.

lol they could also add a

lol they could also add a little crane-game type of machine. It would act like a mini game, and would be the sort of thing where you pay a little and try to grab a gun out of the pile.

A theif class that can steal

A theif class that can steal items and weapons, new pets for the hunter class and being able to train creatures. The sheild thing for the soilder should be more like a turret and spin around ,also have smoke and emp grenades . There should be an A.I. setting that can really make the A.I. aggressive or more passive. Definateley needs to be some sort of gambling area where you can win items, weapons and loot. there is too much modding for there to be a multiplayer vs. multiplayer game in the original but that would be a nice addtion to a new game. to make it sorta like modern warfare and have team death matches would be sweet.

Customizing guns sounds

Customizing guns sounds terrific but i thought about it for a while. Since alot of the fun in the game is the 1,000,000 weapons you can find. What would be the huge general point of spending time to get that one great gun that clicks if you can just customize one to your liking? Just a thought
