Since the videos that i have already seen contain the same demo, will there be a demo that can be released to the public, or is that strictly for use in E3 and for the publshers?  If there is going to be a demo then when could it be out for the public to get a shot at Borderlands.  I hope that this isn't the stupidest question to ask but I am just a little curious.

Nah, it doesn't hurt to be a little curious, as we all are right now pre-site update an' all. There have been hints at test demo's at E3 and that one PC Gamer article, but I wouldn't expect one. I think it would be difficult to make a demo of a game like Borderlands, but at this point only time will tell.

Yeah, I thought that would be the whole situation.  But I am still counting on some more showings of Borderlands and its glory.

Good Question

I dont think a demo would be TOO hard though. To make it a good demo, they wouldnt have to even give me any missions, just gimme 3 miles of random mobs and terrain and let me have at it. Put in a few hundred guns to discover and play with and you've got a demo that could keep you havin fun for weeks.

Easy Indeed

In fact, I would be shocked to find out that they will not be releasing a demo.

I'm hoping Borderlands

I'm hoping Borderlands produces a demo.  In the gaming world today not having a demo is just a really poor move, as gamers are tighter with thier pocketbooks than they have been for a long time.

Rockabilly:  You're going to buy the game anyways, why would Gearbox make a demo for you?  They need to make a demo that hypes the gameplay, hypes the item splurge, hypes the story, that sells to people who are undecided.  The demo should be as convincing as possible.  It needs real work put into it, maby not obcene and massive ammounts of work, but it's not a "throw this together in a weekend" gig.

Regarding review demos.  Most game studios are willing to let you see thier guys playing a game, or let you play the game while a big guy with crossed arms stands behind you, but they don't have that kind of "what you get to do and what you get to see" control when a demo goes out to the public.  It needs to be secure in that the public doesn't access content they aren't supposed to, it needs to be fun and bug free.  If it crashes they can't just make an excuse and tell the reviewer they aren't allowed to write about that part.  A reviewer demo is not remotely equivalent to a public demo in terms of the ammount of work it takes to put together.

@Swiftspear

I know that people like me that are buying the game reguardless arent the target audience, I'm just over simplifying the fact that making a fun demo out of what they have available (even tho it wouldnt reflect the full potential of the game too accurately) wouldnt be hard to do. In terms of a controlled enviroment for a demo, (this is a bad example game, but) Too human was suppose to have all this random loot, all these amazing rpg elements and stuff like that, but they put out a demo. Sure Too Human isn't sandbox and has a linear level lay out, but would you be mad if Gearbox was to put up a wall around any given area of land just for the demo so that they could allow you to complete maybe 3 quests, drive a sample vehicle, use a SMALL part of the rpg side, and find a few random guns? Better yet, how about a timed trial? Get full access to a nearly completed version of the game, but you are only allowed 15 minutes?

the 15 minute thing is too

the 15 minute thing is too hackable, and would be a massive download for a very annoyingly small ammount of playable content, but ya, all the other stuff is fine.

Just have the demo end when the player goes out the "end" of the walled in section.  Show them the start of the vaginaface battle, and have a picture of a super shiny gun you would get in the full version, but you don't acctually get to pick it up and use it in the demo.  Of course have a small game universe in terms of sandbox acctually in the demo, because that's what the game is selling.  I mean, demo doesn't mean you make a whole new section of the game for the player to experiance, most of the time you're recycling regular game content, but you do want to pack as much WOW as possible into a demo, where as, most dev studios will spread out thier major impressive set peices a bit more in a game.

My thought

The kind of demo that i was thinking about woud just be set in a place like the mines or something.  Basically,  the mines would introduce the whole leveling up and battle system that Borderlands uses.  Open world I think would be way to hard to find the right limits to put on to.  Also the large amount of randomly gernerated guns would be a good way to attract the gamers, so that the experience would be different each time that you play it.  Of course there might be a better way but that is just my suggestion.

Agreed.   Maby do a little

Agreed.   Maby do a little bit of open world, let the player set up a vehical and drive it around a bit, but end the demo before it gets too crazy.

Why does the demo have to

Why does the demo have to end? Keep the demo open-ended, similarly to the  Diablo 2 demo. Restrict the area and the content, and it should be fine.
