It's been a long time since we got to peek at the skill-tree system in Borderlands. In fact, the last shots we saw came from grainy pre-alpha gameplay, like the one below.

Until today. The trove of screenshots on IGN pointed out earlier by Borderguard show off Brick's skill tree.

The most obvious difference is the appearance. The new skill tree is sleeker with more graphics and less text. A player can hover over an icon to get more information about a specific skill.

Brick's potential skill upgrades are divvied up into three categories: Brawler, Tank, and Blaster. It looks like each skill can be maxed up to 5 points. The only skill with a description we can read is the "Beserker" which allows Brick to go into a--no surprise--Berserk mode.

There is a mention of a 60 second cooldown period with the Beserk mode so I'm guessing that certain abilities can only be used every so often.

Am I missing anything?

 Its probably the sound

Its probably the sound effects volume and music volume or something along those lines.

Notice..

Notice how the Berzerker skill is at the very top, and only has a point value of 1/1. This confirms that every character will have one primary skill that must accessed in order to unlock the rest of the skill trees. I love the design of the skill trees, it is very sleek and easily navigable. As far as the cassette tape icon goes, i'm thinking that could either be for music or audio messages from npc quest givers. Just a shot in the dark though=) I also would like to know what the skill with the money bag pic is in the Brawler tree..

It could be that also. We probably won't really know until the game comes out=)

I'm glad it looks so easy to

I'm glad it looks so easy to use...I hate messy menues.  This makes it REALLY easy to see what you've got at a glance, and what to choose at your next lvl up.

I agree...

It looks to me also that they nailed the skill menus. Very smooth and easy to navigate=)

Oh, duh!

Audio settings didn't hit me for whatever reason.  Anyway, I like the new skill trees too.  Looks good and easy to use/understand.

in before this thread gets

in before this thread gets derailed (cuz that seems to always happen around here)

the window definately looks a lot more refined than the old list system.  i like the way the differentiate the available skills (unlit, but readable) vs unavailable (lit up), and the maxed out (green) vs in progress (orange)

its cool they went with the top to bottom style of tree, instead of the bottom up. it just seems more logical.

i really like the way the put the description of the skill off to that big area on the right, instead of those crappy little boxes that pop up around your mouse when you hover over stuff, like in most games.

i like how its easy to tell how many points you have available.

i think the graphics for the skill icons look cool. seems to fit. some really stand out, while some of the more subtle skills seem to have more subtle icons.

im not sure why they squeezed the characters name up in the left corner all small like that. that seems kinda pointless, when they put the character class all huge on the right.

. and it might be kind of annoying to have to scroll through every single thing to see the name and description, especially on a console. but i guess it wont be that much of a problem, since you have to set up your skills while standing at a station, so you will have time to read and decide. thats the only negative things i could come up with.

for the rest-

the money bag is passive skill. i know they have mentioned it. it either makes the people around him 'generate' money over time, or it makes enemies he kills drop more money. its something to do with increasing the parties cash gain.

personally, im curious about the blaster tree.

im pretty sure the cassette tape icon is the quest window/mission log. looks like from left to right its <character window, backpack, skills panel, quest/mission log, world map>
