Build a $500 Gaming PC
I remember somebody here was talking 'bout building their own gaming PC. Here's a nifty article on how to build one for $500.
I built my machine a couple years ago for a thousand. At some point, I would like to upgrade parts but haven't really seen the need yet. Still runs any game I want to play although the load times could be a little quicker.
It would be pretty ironic if I couldn't play Borderlands on it.
I work with this guy who took out a $10,000 loan to build his computer. Things pretty sick from what I've heard. Dudes a full on gamer, damn near a terabyte of ram, liquid cooling, wireless everything, surround sound Bose speakers, flat panel 22 inch screen, things a beast.
Or i'm lagging behind on technology. Even a sever motherboard full up on 8GB ram sticks wouldnt approach 1TB of RAM.
Hmm...When i get to think about it, theres actually a ton of neat stuff you could do with 10k for a computer. 3k should get you some of the most serious stuff out there (Yeah you can argue it can be higher, but when you're spending 1k for negligble performance difference, i dont consider it), you'd have 7k left to spend on stuff. Maybe toss out $500 for a 5TB NAS (Network Attached Storage) Sitting on the router, you could go from 21" LCD way up to 40"'s easy...it goes on and on.
I've got about $2000 in my machine. It shouldn't need any major upgrades for a while now.
Dont get me wrong, i think that spending as much as he did was a bit of a waste, but he got some damn good stuff that will be working well for the next 10 years atleast.
$600 PS3
HDMI 1080i
plug in and play anything on its platform, i got sick of messing with my computer and buying games that cost 60$ only to find out they don't run.(grrrrr...). then again io didn't spend a fortune on it, especially seeing how my dad payed for them.
On the topic of the $10k machine, I'm not sure exactly how much this one cost but it has got to be up there.
Thats exactly why I stick to console gaming. With consoles you dont have to worry about system requirements. Also, they have yet to put out a console that has a controller with 88 buttons where you dont even have to use half of them. But thats just me.
The ~, } and 8 buttons are crucial for gaming.
Ok, I guess not really.

I've been tossing that link around on Gearbox's forums for a little while. I really like that build.
Buy a PC so I have someone to game with!
