Co-Op Play

Im going to be playing split-screen with my brother on the xbox360 and I was just wondering,
What if I play as Roland and my bro plays as Mordicei, will Brick and Lilith be AIs in the game or will they just not be there?
If im playing solo will there be any of the main characters there to back me up or will i have to find other characters in the game to help me, OR just do it all by myself?

The other characters are not
The other characters are not controlled by AI if you don't use them. You can play by yourself, or you can hire mercenary NPC's for help in missions.

Thanks for sharing OneKillWonder, Didn't know you could hire merc's. I wonder if those mercenaraies actually level up the way you do or If they just get gun proficiencies. What do you guys think?

Well, if they follow the Diablo 2 style mercs they level with you to what I remember. Also, in D2 you could equip your merc with equipment of your choosing, hopefully they'll do something like that in Borderlands. Kind of doubtful though.

Half the people I know just went to some hard area and let them die. They were not helpful. >.<
"What do you use your merc for?" "Well I let it get killed as I attack the boss from a distance" "Oh sweet, so it's a tank?" "errr...sure yeah, one time."

From what I can ascertain, it will only be human controlled characters. So it would be just you and your brother, or by yourself when playing solo. Please correct me if I am wrong or you have heard/read otherwise.
