A Cool Easter Egg Idea
With so many guns in the game, a nice easter egg would be guns from other games. Perhaps guns like the Lancer (Gears of War), Assault Rifle (Halo) or Grav Gun (HL2, er maybe, might not work so well with game mechanics) could spawn in certaint places on rare occassions. Final Fantasy 12 had a system where the most pwerful weapons in the game would only spawn in one place with a 1 in 1000 chance, unless you did something like not open this one chest, in which case you had a 1 in 10 chance. Something like that would work well in Borderlands I think.
Not to mention how cool it would be to suddenly find a gun from your second favourite shooter game. And the publicity Gearbox would get from it could be pretty good. What do you think?
How about the BFG from Quake II? Or the Plasma Cutter from Dead Space? lots of iconic guns to choose from.
I recall reading that this will be done, most ly with the Alien technology, e.g. the Contra Spread gun.
That would be amazing.
There's licencing issues to worry about. Alot of the newer games have the soul rights to thier weapons. Gear box has mostly good relationships with most of the studios around as the've done a tonne of grunt work for the industry... but there's definately going to be some cases where they just aren't allowed.
Plus, keep in mind, every gun they have to individually model and build is work that they are doing that they could have just had the procedural generator do for them. They're probably going to avoid doing too many. I wouldn't be surpized to see a few though. Maby some halflife or CS guns... or maby some vintage WW2. Projects they have had direct access to in the past.
How great would it be to have the Portal Gun? The have complete rein over the half-life series right? Its possible.......... or even the grav gun like Savage stated, that would be awesome, what would ammo be? Rocks? Vehicle shrapnel? Exploding cacti? Corpses? Who knows?!
No, they would need permission to do any of the HL2 or Portal guns. They never worked on anything HL2, at least not enough that they are credited for any of it. Gearbox did work on Condition Zero, and they did HL:Opposing force basically solo, so I'm guessing they have the rights to content for those licences... even then though, it's pretty likely that the rights have expired or were complicated. I would think valve would probably be accomidating to one of thier closest past allies, but I really don't know the close mechanics of the relationship so I can't say with authority.
I hope so anyways. Although, I wouldn't expect a portal gun or grav gun, as those would both be fairly game breaking to a game that wasn't specifically designed to accomidate them. Hell, Valve hasn't even used the portal gun in a game you're allowed to shoot in yet.
Collectible one-of-a-kind weapons are ALWAYS fun in games with a huge selection. Outside of licensing issues, you could always go down the spoof path =)
In Fallout the most power gun was a limited edition BB gun =) It was absolutely awesome.
They have elemental guns from what I remember. A super powered squirt gun? That'd be pretty neat.
Paintball Gun? That'd actually be pretty cool if you had to track a monster ^.^ something like the paintball system from Monster Hunter.
Any other ideas for humorous guns/One of a kind guns they could use that are Original and not borrowed?
Has already been confirmed to be in the game. Its a rifle that shoots......are you ready for this? NOTHING!!!! It simply locks onto a target and after three seconds, the target explodes. Now THATS a bitchin alien gun!
ButIi thought it was homing darts that did nothing and then after 3 seconds exploded.

I like that idea. After you've been playing a while, I think you might start getting a little desensitized to all the firepower. After you've picked up 10,000 guns, do you really notice when you pick up a new one?
So it would be great if they could throw in some easter eggs that make you pause for a second and wonder where you've seen it before.
