Crawmerax Non-Siren Solos

Hey guys,
I'm just curious who the hell else pulled off a Crawmerax solo out there? How'd you do it, and with what class? I just managed it after about 15 rounds of my own personal ass kicking. If you're not a Siren, you sure as hell can't get to that crack off to the left before he gets to you, but you'd better believe you can get halfway there to that drop down ledge. Mind you, this does NOT mean he won't always be blind to you. Fortunately, the only thing he can nail you with is his minions and those spit balls o' pain (which can be avoided by sprinting around that little area).
After he failed at nailing me with those, he wanders around a bit. If you're lucky he won't go the ledge on the right and jack u up from there...ugh. Took effort, but I'm finally glad to say that I'm done with Borderlands for a while now that I stuck it to that overgrown worm with pincers.

P.S. I tried the ricocheting the bullets around using my Liquid Orion to no avail. I searched that armory like a mother, for that tactic to hit his back, which failed miserably. Cheers to lucky sniper back shots!

P.P.S. Any class sure as heck can pull this off, though non-snipers will have to have some great freakin' aim and nail his back solid on the maybe 1 off-shot chance they get.

 I've killed Crawmerax now

I've killed Crawmerax now over 100 times - but have only solo'd him with my Siren character.  Its not easy at all nonetheless - the key is definitely phasewalking and utilizing different elemental weapons for Crableg's buddies.  There are threads that describe this in more detail.  I usually have on either Catalyst mod, or Mercenary, depending on whether its a solo effort or team.

Make sure you have a high level corrosive, electric and flame weapon equipped at all times.  Second winds are unbelievably vital to survival - no matter what, you will probably be 'dying' like every few minutes because of all the chaos that ensues during this fight.  The elemental weapons will help with each respective creature to help get that second wind so you don't have to start from scratch - I find this is key.

Alot of people say that they ignore Crableg's buddies during the fight - I believe this depends on who his buddies are at any given time.  The Craw Maggots are easily the most dangerous enemies that you fight, make sure you nail these annoying pests with a powerful electric based elemental weapon because they will chase you down from all the way across the map to nail you - and fast too, real bloody fast.  And did I mention they are supremely annoying too?

Also, timing phasewalk to get out of bad situations is extremely important.  Its a very difficult technique to try and dodge any of Crableg's attacks without phasewalk - other character classes other then Sirens really have a HUGE disadvantage here.  Lets put it this way - if you are cornered and surrounded, you are pretty much royally FUCKED.

For nailing Crablegs himself, I use a high level Anarchy with pretty low accuracy.  I actually find the less accurate the Anarchy, the better!!  I find it gets challenging solo when you have to nail the critical on his back, because in combat your almost always facing towards him, or he's moving towards you.  Getting behind him with phasewalk sounds like a good idea too, nonetheless he usually turns around before you can nail his back.  Tricky indeed solo.

I don't even bother trying with any other character classes solo, I can imagine how damn frustrating it would be dying every 5 seconds or so.  I would not recommend even bothering to solo him unless your a Siren and you have a great deal of patience.

Actually, I would be very interested to hear exactly what is the strategy anyone else has used that allows them to kill Crawmerax consistently with any other character class other then Siren.  I don't care about the one off chance that you got lucky somehow or strategy of 'Hiding in the corner' - these are inconsistent strategies that may work sometimes and not other times.  After seeing what his attacks are, and the mechanics of the fight, I just don't see any other class being able to pull it off solo without a great deal of luck.

I have yet to fight

I have yet to fight Crawmerax, but i was wondering, why is the siren so useful?  is it simply because you need Phasewalk to get to cover? i would have thought being a soldier would be the most useful, considering how much you can do with a Scorpio Turret

Yeah but the Soldier doesn't

Yeah but the Soldier doesn't run as fast if something goes wrong (which is often the case), the turret can be used as a decoy but it is quite limitated.

The best Combo is : Siren + Phase walk regen health + regen health shield + a nice anarchy. After that all you need is a little patience, specially on the Back, you'll have to make him come nearby one of the big rock so that when he's trying to make a U turn you blast his Back :)

Something to remember as well there 3 maybe 4 Mignons when fighting him, the ones you want to avoid are the Magots, and since they respawn you want to keep in mind that what U see on the field is what U got ! Meaning if theirs not Magots don't kill the others that aren't much of threat cause if you do it might bring a Magots back...

Maybe he has a crazy powerful

Maybe he has a crazy powerful bessie, ive seen some that can take out one of his crit. spots in 2 shots maybe a hunter with a sniper class mod with max+ crit damage could do it.
