Does Borderlands Remind Anybody of An MMO?

Obviously, Borderlands isn't a massively multiplayer online game like World of Warcraft but some of Borderland's features remind me of an MMO.

1. the persistent character. You level up your character and get him new gear and guns. You can bring that into a co-op game. Like an MMO, you're always building and advancing your character.

2. the emphasis on co-op. This game is designed so you play with other people.

3. the focus on better weapons and leveling up your character. There's a bit of a grinding element in this game that MMO's are so famous for. Although in Borderlands, the "grinding" looks pretty friggin fun.

So are any of you that are thinking of buying the game MMO players? Does Borderlands feel like a non-MMO MMO to you at all?

It does feel a bit like it,

It does feel a bit like it, but that's not why i'm buying it. Or maybe I am, I don't know.

But I haven't played a MMO for ages.

Borderlands, MMO

In this vein, here's what Randy Pitchford of Gearbox said about Borderlands as a pseudo-MMO in an interview with 1UP.

1UP: I've been following Borderlands since it was announced, and in trying to explain the game's concept to a friend, I said it was like a really fast-paced World of WarCraft, but with gun porn. Is that about right?

RP: [Laughs] That's a good one. Can I use that? That's a really good description, actually. It's simple -- you summed up what it's about. There's questing, leveling up, developing skills and talents, and adventuring with friends. All the things you get out of World of WarCraft are there. It's a totally different setting, though -- it's science fiction, not fantasy -- and the loot is totally gun porn. That's absolutely a good descriptor. [Laughs]

Definately a game that feels

Definately a game that feels alot like an MMO.  It's acctually, more what I hoped Hellgate: London was going to be for me.  Or multiplayer mass effect with much much much more action.

 Yeah the game definately

Yeah the game definately looks like a non MMO MMO. Too Human kinda fit that spot too. It had leveling, armor, instances, talent trees, aggro, ETC. I'm a pretty big fan of WoW and WAR and played a little EQ back in the day. From what I've read about BL the best way I can describe it is Diablo 2 with guns.
