End of the media Blackout?
more like a rare lightning strike in the otherwise blackness of the infinite abyss. seriously i don't think that i've ever seen a game company apear so lost when it comes to sharing what they know. When everyone was freaking out about the new art change they tried to calm them with "you have to see it in action" and "thats a scan, just wait for all the new pics we have for you guys." That was two weeks ago. So either the Gearbox is full to the brim with swine flu or.... actually i cant even think of a logical reason for their behavior. whatever though, i guess. They're the game studio and we're the customers. And it could be worse, they could be bethesda who say nothing to anyone and release game destroying DLC and glitch infested games. I'm just mad because my waking moments are spent really wanting this game and it saddens me to not have any info on it.
I agree. Gearbox has done a really bad job of feeding their fanbase. I tell my friends about this great game and they ask what kind of things it has, I say: "ummm, welli t has 650, 000 guns. And...uhhh, it like Diablo but FPS," unfortunately I am the only person I know who takes an interest in old games, like Diablo. Then I tell them that it has an awesome art style.
Then, I spend a week getting them to watch the E3 video, then I have to explain why the art wasn't the same, and explain what the art style looks like. They immediately think of Wind-Waker.
Bungie does a brilliant job of keeping their fanbase. I don't think I have to elaborate on that.
agreed. Bungie and Bioware are two of the best studios when it comes to developer-customer interactions. They have solid, tangible updates on a regular basis and a number of people in the know that constantly feed the communty information, not just dropping some then retreating again for months at a time. Also Reindeer, i know exactly what that's like. It's hard to share information when you're starved of it yourself.
I've stopped telling people honestly. Its become too frustrating trying to explain the concept, and then the graphics change, why it changed, what it changed from, why we only have one screenshot, why the article was released in a UK PC gaming magazine, etc, etc, etc........
I'll tell friends when I dont have to feel like a jackass to explain it.
But you guys are dead on with the whole thing, Ennui made it sound like we were going to get bombarded with new stuff. Giving us the whole "just be patient its going to be huge" pep talk, making a big deal out of opening the website, only to delay the whole thing (and then give us an exercpt from the PC Gamer magazine, lame), all of this after waiting for 2 years.
Frustrating is a good word for this.
I was never telling people about the graphics to begin with.
It's an RTS FPS that has over half a million guns, coop, tens of, if not hundeds of, thosands of vehicals, and epic sized bosses. There's nothing more to know. If that doesn't win you over you're not a real gamer.
Not to say that it's impossible to take that forumla and fuck it up, just that, from the getgo, it's an increadibly strong formula.
Eh, none of my friends are interested when I mention the fact it's an open world RPG, besides the one kid who also played Oblivion and Fallout, which were so-so for me, I preferred Diablo by miles.
Of course as soon as I mention there's 650000+ guns they all go "What game is this?"... All they play is Call of Duty =/
it's just sad if you think about it. Borderlands has the probablility of being one of the best games of all time if what we know plus more is true. I just don't want someone in the Gearbox marketing to underestimate Borderlands because of the so-so sales of Brothers in Arms. The saddest thing would be for Borderlands to join so many other games (psychonaughts being the major one) that were really really good but with no advertisement and no community behind them they fall flat regardless. Swiftspear, you nailed it, this game is like taking all of the games that were average but with some really cool features and just combining all of them into some sort of pure game with the gameplay of Halo, the bosses of Shadow of the Colossus, and the item spanning of Diablo, with all of the guns, armor, clothing, and an open world enviroment. This game deserves a religion, not a timid marketing squad.

Well put
I cant say I dont feel the same. they tell us that something huge is coming soon just to give us a few pictures and an article? Only reason Im not more mad is that I've chalked it up to the fact that E3 09 is coming. If they dont deliver there, then that has to mean something is wrong that they arent telling us.
What I'd LOVE to see:

Eh, if you're referring to Oblivion and Fallout I would say don't get too worried.. Yeah, they had glitches, BAD glitches, but they were mostly fixed. Hopefully Gearbox will be on that. Also, the way they're structuring the game sounds a little more secure than Oblivion, with the random generation.. Though who knows.. maybe we'll have randomly generated bugged areas? <.<
