GameSpot Previews Borderlands
Well, the Borderlands news and features are just rolling in these days, aren't they?
In addition to the G4 and Giant Bomb articles, GameSpot recently went hands on with both the singleplayer and multiplayer portions of the game. The article mainly focuses on singleplayer, and goes more in-depth with the game's intro that the Giant Bomb article did. There were two things caught my eye during the description of singleplayer.
1. Armor
When talking about completing various sidequests: "Completing these gave us access to key non-player character allies who in turn supplied us with armour, weapons, and information."
This almost confirms that armor is still very much a part of the game. I say almost because it's unclear as to wether or not they personally saw this or they are making an assumption based on other facts of the game.
2. The Benefits of Looting
"Because this is a bounty-hunting game, you are encouraged to horde unwanted weapons and items and later sell them at vending machines to raise your cash reserves for medikits."
Medikits are also part of the game. I know a lot of people were wondering if health also recharged like the shields, but this, and the part where it says your "second wind" after being knocked down starts you off with low health, proves otherwise.
This was a great article. GS also seems genuinly excited for Borderlands, and isn't afraid to voice some concerns, like the loot grinding in co-op.
I also notice the mention of armour but still have not seen it in a video as loot. Wish they would've been more clear on it.
Since I'm more of a solo guy, I don't mind the loot system at all since if I ever do it, it'll be with friends and we can just make up our own loot rules. We are all old WoW players so we know basic manners. :D
The amount of side quests even if they are simple kill/fetch/ect is amazing and really gives you motivation to keep on playing and looting. I've very happy to read that they got areas designed to be farmed, the dog leg parts, which is something I've always wanted in WoW for 1-2 players.
Honestly, the more I read and see of this game, the more I can't stand that we are only in July. Borderlands is easily my must have game for the rest of 2009.
There has been, on a couple of occasions, references (by GB empoyees) to regenerative shielding. I believe that the shield is a piece of armor. And that while your health does not regen. you can get a shield that does.
So far, I think the shields are the armor. In that aspect, the shields will also give a feel of Halo.
Nice find, I like that he is showing off more footage of the game to hold us over till the release :). I belive Gametrailers did an interview recently too, basically said more or less the same as this but he mentioned something about the dueling system, where you melee a partner to challenge him to a duel and he accepts by meleeing back, pretty interusting.
that info has already been known ages ago but yeh basically waht you said, u can challenge them anywhere as well even in a fight (with skags XD) and once they accept a dome will appear around the area which ull fight in

Nice write-up. I'm making a few tweaks and promoting this to the front page.
A lot of Borderlands coverage today. I'll post some new screenshots later tonight.
