Ahoy me harties!

About a year ago I read a book named Hyperion, from a rather notable scifi series, whose namesake was some small frontier planet in a faroff galaxy.  I can definately see some connection with Pandora, and this is perhaps this is why there is a gun manufacterer named Hyperion.  The company could also be named directly after the Sun-titan of greek myth, because there is much sun in the Wild West, and in wastelands in general.  But is there a way, even other than these two, that the name Hyperion could be connected with cheap, composite plastic material grade weaponry?

Atlas is a little simpler: The Atlas Corporation is a juggernaut in the Borderlands universe, and since Atlas is commonly associated with strength and power, the connection is fairly more obvious.  Pearl being a rather expensive material, pearl handles might follow from such a valuable company.

But what about Jakobs?  Is there some connection to the Old West that justifies wooden stocks?  Any other connections for the other gun manufacturers?

(sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum)

I've always figured they were

I've always figured they were just cool sounding names that sort of fit the manufacturer's style.  Jakobs sounds like a badass gunslinger from 1860s western United States, Atlas is obvious, and the others just... fit.  I think sometimes people read too deeply into these things.
