GeekvGeek's Highs And Lows From Zombie Island
(Before you read any further a big spoiler alert for those who have yet to play Zombie Island)
Many who played Zombie Island of Dr. Ned made a fracas about the anticlimatic ending sequence with Dr. Ned. But here at the Borderlands Guide Game Examination Laboratories, we like go deeper than that. So without further ado, here's yours truly GeekVGeek's highs and lows from the first DLC.
--As a first DLC, the most compelling aspect of the Island is the amount of missions and side quests from which a player can choose. (Take that Fallout 3!!!)
--The “struggle” is quite easy if you’re going through it the first time on any level above 40. For me, it was due in large part to how fast I was leveling up and the timing of the DLC.
--If you like killing zombies 24/7, this is definitely the place to do it, including zombie Badass Frankensteins. You can also run past these luddites to get through your missions (you should probably kill them anyway, but first visit Hallow's End, wink wink).
--At some point, I wished the zombies would’ve stormed Jakob's Cove where the Gaitlin Turrets reside just to get some savage burn time. Blood thirsty? Uh huh...
--A few more gun chests would be key for replay value and farming. Although, some extensive play led me to a few spots, not really the traditional “farmable” areas (Jakob’s Cove, on the way to the Mill, and within Hallow’s End) Not as smooth as New Haven or Crimson Fastness.
--More Loot Frankensteins please! At the rate in which they appear right now, I can count sheep and fall asleep faster. “99…37…zzzzzz”
--Going to Dead Haven with minor changes such as added walls made for some interesting movements. Raising the stakes here (get ready for a rush of zomboids) made a “revisit” fun and challenging. Gigantic, zombie Frankenstein named Bill? CHECK!
--T.K. Baha, welcome back from the dead.
I really enjoy shooting Zombies up, however I was really hoping for some more Zombie-Specific events, Such as an Assault on Jakob's Cove or holding out in a Mansion while it's layed siege by the Undead. I also agree 100% about the fast travel and lack of farming areas. Would be nice if you could ALWAYS have access to that one Weapon Vending Machine you have to activate as well.
However, the change of scenery was quite nice.
To Play by yourself, that 1st DLC was great, of course it is not perfect ; lots of slow animation if you use an incendiary weapon, no fast travel, loot farming not as interesting as in new heaven, the Frankeinstein don't always have great weapon (well that goes for the borderlands boss and mini boss) for what they take to put them down ; the ending very disapointing. But there is great ambiance, the first time I played it i was like wow, it really feel like those Z horror movies... Quest and side quest are there so that you spend quite some time on it, 6 more inventory space, the sens of humour is really good etc, etc...
For Mad Moxxi, it is best to do it on Live, by yourself it becomes quite boring, the inventory space gives you some fresh air when you collect weapons, but with just 1 class point as a reward that what really sucks ! I would at least hoped for 5...
well, they couldn't give you too many because than everyone would be able to max out their skill trees. Than, everyone would be the exact same (hunter and hunter, siren and siren etc.) to there own class, and there would be no diversity.
I think what made the purchase of Zombie Island for me was Steve's "HEY-O" cameo on one of the echo devices. Hearing that made the ten bucks money well spent.
Oh yeah, and the whole killin zombies, loot grinding, and questing bits. Those too.
This is by far one of the most humor filled games ive ever come across, sure zombie island was okay, i agree with the point that it would have been beter with more zombie themed missions (siege in jakobs cove ect.) but hearing Zed... i mean ned of course :p ranting of bills popcorn addiction and how the dead crave raisins and bran muffins was great, sure no fast travel sucked but then that would have cut down the play time even more, as it only took my cousin and I about 6 hours to complete (7 if you count braaaaaaaaains) also, my jakobs machien broke after the 1st use, and despite the name, sold different manufacterors weapons, which defeats the purpose of calling it a jakobs machine i think, but all in all i say worth the 10 bucks, cant wait 4 tourny time!
I completely agree about the humor filled gaming. Who could forget about that tied up claptrap, rest in peace, and I quote "you won't have your way with me stranger, i've been hurt to many times." That's classic. However that brains mission got completely out of hand. If you didn't start it at the beginning, then you are spending the next hour and a half just getting headshots on zombies for the achievement. Otherwise it was way more than I expected and give it a thumbs up.
Is it possible to buy th DLC as an expansion pack?

wasn't the greatest dlc, especially because of NO FAST TRAVEL feature.
In my opinion the Underdome is MUCH MUCH MUCH better
