Hyperion TO240 Ruthless SMG - Weird effect
Hi All,
New member, 1st post. Love the site, very helpful. Kudos to all.
OK, on to my question...
I'm seeing a weird effect on one of the SMGs I've picked up (Hyperion TO240 Ruthless SMG). This SMG doesn't appear in the Gunopedia (well, it didn't until I added it a few minutes ago) so I have resorted to asking the community.
Every other gun I have just shoots the bullets in a straight line (as you would expect) but, for some weird reason, on this gun the bullets spiral anticlockwise and leave a kind of white corkscrew trail that I find very distracting. The stats of the gun don't mention anything special so what is going on with it? Can anyone enlighten me?
Here's what the stats say...
TO240 Ruthless SMG (Hyperion)
- Damage: 32
- Accuracy: 92.4
- Fire Rate: 8.3
- Ammo: 55
Special Attributes:
- +61% Recoil Reduction
- +55% Accuracy
- 2.4x Weapon Zoom
- -24% Reload Speed
Cheers,

Ahh, OK. Cool, thanks for that.
Is it just me or is that effect really distracting? Even though it was a decent gun, I ended up selling it because I found the spiralling traces to be offputting. I wasn't able to aim accurately and when I fired in long spurts, I couldn't see what I was shooting at because all the spirals were getting in the way.
In any case, at least I know what it was now, thanks for clearing that up at least. You'd think they would mention something about the gun shooting ricochet bullets in the info panel but, nope, nothing.
Thanks again,
TV
Yes, this spiralling SMGs can be found constantly in the game, and most of the time I find them, they're used by an enemy. There is no sign of the effect neither on the stats, nor on the name of the gun. Gearbox forgot to implement this, or they just simply left it as a neat little secret. The only good thing about this is that bullets ricochet from any surface. The problem is that the spiralling motion tends to miss the enemy, and it's hard to aim. The barrel of the SMGs that spiral is specific, so they can be slightly distinguished. Also it is possible to find a "Double" version of the spiralling SMG that shoots two bullets at the time that spiral.
