First question is: Is your internet wireless?

Yup, ur wired. Well, I am

Yup, ur wired. Well, I am wireless, so my information MAY be a little off. Your Xbox may have came with an ethernet cable, depending on what kinda package you got, but it seems like you should just be able to run a cable from the main HUB to your Xbox, or even get one of the connections (I cant think of the name) but it has one plug that goes into the ethernet port and has 2 infeeds, have the one from your HUB to the comp in one, and another cable from your Xbox into the other plug.

Viruses infect your computer,

Viruses infect your computer, not the internet, viruses wont have any effect on XBL. And most modern comuters have a dual ethernet input, so you might wanna check that before you go spending any money on something you dont need.

If the issue is that you only

If the issue is that you only have 1 internet port on your modem (the box that converts phone signals to ethernet) then you can use any standard wired or wireless router as a splitter to allow you to wire multiple devices into the internet.  Wireless routers have the same number of wired ports as wired routers do (4), so if you just get whatever you can find that's the cheapest.  Routers are pretty simple technology generally speaking, higher cost units, for a wired connection, are generally worthless.

For 99% of modems and routers you don't need to turn them off to plug a new device in.  Even the ones you do need to turn off, it won't damage anything not doing so, they just need to be reset to see a new device.

[edit] If you need to buy a new cable, you're looking through a straight through Cat5 connector.  In other words, a standard ethernet cable.
