First, Check the difficulty
First, Check the difficulty of the quest if it is set to High, level up til it is set to normal. Previous advices are good ones too.

Listen to this!
What i did when i first fought him was: I would use my best weapon against him and than just keep on hitting. When he gets to close or does to much damage to me i would go outside one of the doors you came through, reload and than go to the opposite door that he's at and start shooting. Just keep doing that till he's dead.
AND stuff like Frankwest76 said was a good point about how high a level you are. Well good luck

I was level 16 when I took
I was level 16 when I took him down and found it to be only moderately difficult, not too hard at all.
The best advice I can give you is to keep your distance. His shotgun has PATHETIC accuracy so unless you're right next to him when he shoots, it will do minimal damage to you.
He also has some hella good melee attacks on him so that's another reason to keep your distance.
Apart from that, I'd also advise you to:
- Take out his henchmen as fast as you can so that you can concentrate on Sledge alone
- Try to concentrate on getting critical hits since, not only will that do more damage, but it also stuns him for a few moments.
- If you do go for criticals, use a sniper rifle as they are usually the most accurate, generally have high damage, and often have a damage bonus for criticals. Favour a rifle with a decent fire rate though, at least 1.0/sec. If you don't have a good sniper rifle (or your skill is low), use your highest damage weapon that is still accurate enough to go for critical headshots.
I think that about covers it.

Yep, that pretty much covers it. First of all things, kill the lackies that are around. To take down the shield, use an electric weapon or go for the head. Keep a distance as his attacks do most damage at short range. Shoot to the head constantly as it stuns him after he recovers. Remember to keep distance, even if the fight looks almost over! Sniper rifles do help. Pump-action rifles do most damage and have a massive critical hit +, but they're slow. A decent semi-automatic can do the job. If the rifle is a fire elemental, even better as it does damage overtime. An accurate machine gun can do the trick too, but would take a while, you would have a shorter point of view, and you would be at risk of him shooting you.
First off get as much help as you can. maybe a level 15-20 would really do damage.get you and another sniper in the back and one or both of you should have high el3ctrical weapons. If you manage to get 4 ppl, have perferibly a soilder or brick on the frontlines to take care of guards. if you play localy use a scorpio and phasewalk to your advantage. move fast, be swift. :D
