Hey guys I just wanted to say that I got a message from Sony saying that the public beta for MAG will be released on 9/17 and the only thing you have to do to qualify is subscribe to QORE. Im already a subscriber but I thought I'd pass on the news.

P.S. Sorry to 360 owners.

Not Impressed

I watched a video of MAG on G4 when they were doing E3 coverage and I was not impressed at all.  On two separate occasions while watching this person play, he engaged someone for more than 5 whole seconds, failed to kill them and simply walked away.  Once was a brief gunfight where both players strafed around each other and then simply turned around and walked away.  The second time was a knife battle that ended similarly.  The player finally managed to score a kill by sneaking up on a sniper and firing a long burst of bullets directly into his head.  This wouldn't be notable if not for the fact that the sniper died only at the end of the long burst of bullets.

I saw that...

I saw that also and was like wtf. But I have a friend who works at zipper, no one important just an errand boy, but he told me that when they were making the demo to be shown  they made a few of the people invincible because they didnt know who would be playing on the video and they didnt want someone joining in, walking two feet and getting blown to smitherines by a random noobtuber or something like that. If hes wrong the damage system is ridiculously too high and if hes right they basically cheated to make the game look better but thats the exact reason why Im getting the beta. Im on the fence about the game and I want to see if it will live up to the hype or fall short.

PS I do admit I am excited about it but not like going-out-of-my-mind-cant-wait-for-it excited like I am for Borderlands.

Let me know how it is...

Thanks for the notice Tideturner, I am also fairly excited about MAG, but I most likely won't be able to put the $24 into subscribing for Qore just to get a Beta...I really don't like it when companies put limitations like that on "public" Beta's.  I'd rather have to miss out on a free Beta code instead of have to pay $25 for something that should be free.

Well, I was wondering how they would justify the QORE subscription, and now they have. This will be worth it imo, I played the beta for MGO and tore ppl up and then when it released I had this huge advantage as far as knowing what to level up first etc. As far as what ever demo people are commenting on, no demo is perfect, but I will be showing my support for the concept in the form of $$ spent whenever it involves MAG, just as I'll be showing that same sort of support for Borderlands. Sony built a machine that can do this, and I want to show them financially that I support this direction of more players on screen and ingame, it's where I feel the future of consoles should be headed. Anyone who is stuck on 4v4 or 8v8 is simply falling behind and not really testing their skills as a gamer imo.

I agree for the most part,

I agree for the most part, it's just that I don't have enough extra money to throw at things like this.  If they want a truly public beta, it should be free.  I can only buy a couple of new games a year anyway, if I throw what little I have into a beta that will last for a couple of months at best, I don't have much left.  I'm just kind of a finicky spender and I like to make sure that I am getting good value for what I put my money into...that said, Borderlands is the first game that I've preordered in a couple of years...typically, I'll wait for a review to come out before making a decision to purchase.  But with Borderlands, my only concern is that there might not be too many people online with ODST, L4D 2 and COD: MW 2 coming out this fall.  There's supposed to be large PvP arena's, but I'm thinking it may be difficult to find a good match.

No online beta for console

No online beta for console lasts months, it'll be 3 weeks tops. MGO and other beta's required a preorder or purchase of a game video to acquire the beta key. It's my guess that PSN will now make all beta's available to QORE subs, as fileplanet offers beta's to it's paying members. I understand what you say about cash, but I buy like 4-5 games a month, and PSN online is free, so really what you're paying for is an edge on people who will be jumping online for the first time when retail version hits shelves. It'll be worth it imo, to know the weapons and classes, the maps and vehicles and have like 3 weeks to master them will be huge. Everyone who owns a Playstation3 will buy this game, in fact some will buy a playstation to play this game, that's alot of ppl to own online lol. Besides, I have to admit, QORE has always seemed very interesting to me, but I couldn't see paying for something that didn't actually offer a game, and well that's solved.
