Other than some weapons having blades or other things to melee with, is there ANY way to increase melee damage?  Does anyone know how melee damage is calculated?  I know theres no "strength" stat, but is it purely by level, or are there class mods that will change that?  Also im pretty sure theres not, but is there a melee proficiency like pistol or shotgun proficiency?  It'd be kinda fun to build lilith as a fast melee striker stunning and corroding her enemies while popping in and out of phase walk.

but if her melee damage stays pathetic the whole game whats the point of those skills?  Brick is too much of a "brute force" melee for me, I prefer speed and style in my melee fightings like rogues, assassins, and monks.

From the screenshots, there's

From the screenshots, there's no melee proficiency.

The items we've seen with melee damage bonuses list them as additional damage.  For example, The Clipper's "+100% melee damage".  My guess is everyone has some sort of base melee damage which guns and skills modify.  I suppose each character deals a different amount of melee damage because of their different default melee attacks.

I don't think any character's basic melee damage stays low or pathetic.  Leveling up increases one's overall damage, and that would include melee damage.  Of course, the higher level you are, the more skill points you can spend on making your melee damage higher if you have the option to do so.  Either way, you'll be matching the higher toughness of higher level foes.

I don't think you should worry.  From what I saw of Brick and Lilith's tree and style of play, there's just too much melee focus in them for Gearbox to neglect it or screw it up.  Go melee as much as you want- I think Gearbox made it so that it will work. :-)

various melee adjustments?

Depending on my mood, I enjoy playing all the characters in their own styles. Tonight I've been playing Brick all night, and always enjoy just beating the shit out of the baddest bosses. I have been working on leveling up his Melee Challenge all night, and finally did, but have a question. I was wielding a gun with a +100% Melee Dmg blade, but the gun also had a +10% Damage stat. Does that apply to melee attacks? Furthermore, when Brick goes Berserk, does he take the weapon's bonus with him to enhance his punches? I would think not since he's clearly barehanded, but does anyone know for sure?

I wish Gearbox had included Melee as one of the 'weapon' types that you can get better with by usage, like all the various firearms. After all it is an attack option and just like with using firearms, you should get better with using hand-to-hand combat as you rely on it more. I think Melee could have been done much better, as when you're in the thick of it, clicking down that (Xbox) button repeatedly is a bear and often doesn't cooperate. After the way I played tonight, using almost exclusively melee attacks, I would like to see melee enhanced the same way the other forms of attacking are.

All the firearms gain in 3 categories as you get better with them. I would say that, with increased use, the categories that would be improved by leveling Melee would be: Damage, Accuracy, and as one experienced in hand-to-hand combat, Damage Reduction from enemy melee attacks, i.e. blocking or bobbing & weaving. Some of Brick's mods have this value. About the Accuracy though, I'm not sure how Melee is implemented, but know I've swung on many a foe and didn't hurt them. Did I miss?
