MODDERS BEWARE

I was searching through the official Gearbox Forums and I noticed this interesting little bit of information. These two lines will drastically change the online community:

"issue: Users are able to manipulate item data to create modded items that are usable in the game
status: A fix has been found for this issue and is pending deployment"

Now, whether this means they've found a way to eliminate modding or not, something is going to be changed.

The full forum post can be found here.

You could just avoid

You could just avoid downloading the update. Generally that means you won't get to play online. I guess if you want to get really intense about it you could maybe buy a cheap memory card big enough to hold your modded gamesaves, start a new secondary profile without XBL access on that storage device, and transfer your modded stuff to that character. That way when you change storage devices you're playing on an unpatched version of the game.

I'm half talking out of my ass here but that sounds plausible right?

Oh your link is busted btw.

Everyone is jumping the gun on what Gearbox can and cannot do...

I think before coming to any conclusion whatsoever, we all must wait until the update is actually released, until then, we have too little information to go on at the moment.  Currently save games are all still client side, and I believe the only way to legitamize the entire Borderlands gaming community would be to start everyone from scratch!

Then and only then, could saved game information be then stored server-side on gearbox servers.  Good luck trying to mod anything then.  But I am sure too many people would raise a stink about that, I personally wouldn't really mind - I'm just too sick of seeing everyone running around with all these utterly stupid modified weapons.  All I am saying is that I am willing to sacrifice my characters and all my hardware if it means I don't ever again have to put up with wondering if the persons joining my game are using overpowered unbalanced weapons.

PSN Updates

At least on the PSN, you can't even start the game without downloading the update if it's available and you're connected to the internet.

That link isn't busted, it still works. I just tried it.

IMO

I don't think it would be very hard to block multiplayer access to people who have modded weapons and items in their inventory. It might make matchmaking take a little longer, but it wouldn't be that complicated. If Bungie can do it with Halo, Gearbox can do it with Borderlands.

mods are sad

i hope they do get rid of mods today i made a new guy and a lvl 10 came into my game and he was using a modded gun that shot like 100 bullets per second i thought it was sad that he needed to use a mod at lvl 10

and if they do get rid of mods does anyone have a guess of when it will happend iv been told when the 3rd  ÐLC comes out mods will go away.

again they should allow the

again they should allow the person starting the online game the option to allow modded weapons or not. Games should clearly show if they are allowing Modded weapons or not so that players know what they are getting into. However i wont object what ever way they go.

i agree with Terrak

i agree completely if the server you are joining the host should put whether he wants modded weapons on his server or not. instead of everyone complaining how they want modding gone when they just want to enhance their experience but alot of people bring it online which terrak practically already found a solution for online lol.
