Official Borderlands Web Site Updated. Sorta.
So the promised update to the official Borderlands Web site finally came at around 10 PM Eastern tonight. Thanks to L3vi for being the first to point this out and SuperCommie for grabbing a screenshot.
Gearbox updated the day the site will be updated from today to Thursday April 16th. They also linked to a Randy Pitchford post about the new art style. While informative, it doesn’t really explain how Gearbox flubbed something so simple as a Web site update.
All day anticipation mounted on the official Gearbox forums about the update. A thread waiting for the release garnered 823 replies and 13,485 views as of 10:30 tonight. People waited and waited and waited. Then Gearbox’s big announcement--after more than a few of us stayed up past our bedtimes and L3vi missed Chuck--was to come back in a few days.
Is it a big deal that we have to wait a few more days for this Web site to be updated? Not at all. If there’s one thing Borderlands has taught me, it’s patience. I just hope Gearbox is using all this development time to make something special.
Yeah, how dare they release information before a game is released? Yar, kill them all so it never gets published!
Yar!
It is a little bit of a betrayal for them to create such a huge buzz (I'm not sure if they expected to to be so huge... but) and then mismanage resources or whatever caused the update to be delayed.
Acctually, I kind of think when they announced on PC Gamer, the buzz would be nominal at best, a few people would go "oh, a new shader, that's interesting" and they would have plenty of time to prepare and delay a full scale ad camp push whenever they wanted to. But apparently more people than they thought had thier ears peaked for this game, because in a matter of 2 days the internet goddam exploded, thousands of people posted comments on the various news sites that covered news on the game, and gearbox was put in the somewhat unconfortable unexpected position of "oh, there may be as many as 10,000 or more people waiting to see what we do next"
According to the origional plans they're probably ready to show us very nearly nothing, so they are scrambling to figure out exactly how they are going to make use of the buzz that has been created. They're kind of getting pushed into an unwanted early second media push, when, for the most part they probably would have prefered killing the media black out a few months from now, closer to E3 and release.
I really kind of doubt they will let the heat die down without any addressals though. It would be too risky making so many of thier hardcore fans feel so betrayed.
They pretty much made us wait until monday, so they could tell us that its coming thursday.....
Hope the info is something substantial tho. Something worth all this hype.
Hi everybody.
I have a feeling it will be the release date we've been waiting for.
im still certain this will the greatest game ever.
I definitely hope so. Oh, and on behalf of our host, welcome gorefreak.
Thats the update!?You've got to kidding me.I wait for the website for 5 and a half months and this is all they give me.BULLSHIT.But your right they better be giving us something special, they'll most likely come through, but the website is a disapointment
No, this was not what you were waiting for. There was a last miute emergency, and they had to postpone the release of the teaser website.
