Online(Not working) VPN Next [PC HELP]
I am on a PC in case anyone cared.
Online play doesn't work for me or my friend. We have tried GameRanger, Leaf, and Hamachi. None of them work. I know in order to get some of them to work we need to port forward. Both of us have a Dynamic IP ISP, so that doesn't allow us to port-forward.
My question to you all is whether anyone here knows how to port-forward with a Dynamic IP ISP (very unlikely that anyone has gotten this done) or if anyone can tell me of another way that we can VPN without having to port-forward.
If no one has an answer then I might have to pay extra for them to give me a Static IP.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who can help.
I have Embarq(DSL) I tried to set my router to bridge mode previously but then it had asked me for static IP information. That is why i didn't bring it up previously. It is a ZyXel 660 Wired (I have a wireless router D-Link). I just checked the box to see if there were the documents, no luck. If anyone has had any experience with this modem then if you would pass along the information. I may have misinterpreted the Wizard Setup on the browser interface. I personally don't like wizards, but that is all that is on the modem from what I can tell.
I got my router to go to Bridge mode.
For anyone else who needs to, this is from the documentation: READ IT BEFORE YOU DO IT (I am not responsible if you mess up anything.)
In the address bar type in http://192.168.2.1 and press Enter on your keyboard. You should be prompted for a password. The standard password is 1234.
You should now be at the Main Menu of the Web Based Configuration. From here you want to select the Diagnostic link under the Maintenance section on the far right. This is the Diagnostic menu. Select the “Network Layer” option here. It is of utmost importance the next steps be carefully performed in order.
1. Click on the “Release” button under WAN IP. In the information box under the work Info you should see that the IP has changed to 0.0.0.0.
2. Click on the button at the bottom that says “Change to Bridge Mode”. Once this has been done, you should see that under Operating mode, it will say Current Mode: Bridge.
After this, power cycle your router(unplug WAIT 30 SECONDS, you really need to do this) so it can dump its current IP settings and refresh with the new WAN IP settings.
Test your internet connection. If you get an errors, you should hit the reset pin on the back of your modem so you can start over.
I'm glad you got this working.
NOTE: If you use DSL most times you will have an login associated with your connection that is normally handled by your DSL modems. Once your modem is in bridged mode all it is doing is forwarding with DSL signal to your router. You will then have to input that same log in information into your router so that it will esatblish a connection with your ISP. Like everything, everyone is different, this is just a general rule of thumb. If you have any questions regarding this please message me.
I still haven't been able to connect to my friend.
I bridged my modem to my router, it didn't let me play; reserved my IP for my computer, forwarded my ports using the DNS information that showed on my router, still nothing. My friend can connect to his friend but I cannot join either of them. I don't need login information to be online.
Any other information?
P.S. My friend and his friend connect using the regular Online method, not Gameranger or anything like that.
Even though your friends can connect to each other I would still make sure they have the ports forwarded as well. Also are you trying to have them invite you to the game or them to yours?? Also which ports did you forward. I don't have the list in front of me at the moment, but I will update the thread with the correct ports.
Sorry it took me so long. The ports that I have forwarded are 7777, 28900, 28910, 27900 to the IP of my PS3, which in your case would be your PC. Also what kind of firewall are you using?
How many computers can a wireless router support? Answer If you are linking them together to share an internet connection. Thanks for sharing me your post.

No static IP will be needed. It sounds like you are running into the same problem that I have with my ISP as they block all ports except 25 from the modem. The way you can get around this is by setting your modem into bridged mode and letting your router do all of the work. You may have to go to your ISP for their documents on how to do this. Also, are you using DSL, Cabel, etc?
