I think that it would be cool
I think that it would be cool if it gave you some sort of a special starter weapon for pre-ordering. Like some of the guns they used in BIA:HH. Sure they are all real-world guns, but that would make it even cooler, amid all these outlandish guns, you get something like an M1918 BAR, or M1A1. Keep it kinda retro to begin with to really set off the "futuristic old western" vibe.

It'd be cool they gave you a code that just makes 5 random pieces of loot spawn in front of you from the entire catalog of items. and that it could only be used once per disc.

If Too Human was any
If Too Human was any indication, there will probably be some cool looking starting loot for the pre-order people, possibly a new piece of armor, I doubt much more. Maybe it'll be something non-game-related, such as a mini-figurine, for the big nerds, haha..
I like the idea of old-fashioned guns though, if only as a novelty. Maybe add a little flavor text too them, like some of the WoW items.

Why does it have to be
Why does it have to be starting gear? Give pre-order people exclusive end-game gear. That way you get a really cool prize that's effective against everything, not obsolete in three levels. It also encourages people to play longer, which isn't a problem.

I love the idea of
I love the idea of pre-ordered endgame gear, but I can already see people complaining six months after release because they end up weaker in the endgame because they didn't get a chance to pre-order the game.
Though maybe that symbol of elitism is good, who knows.. I just see people hating it if they decide NOT to pre-order.
Maybe, that has been popular lately.
