Shacknews Interviews Gearbox's Mikey Neumann
Shacknews scored an interview with Gearbox's Mikey Neumann. I dig up the good parts below. You can read the full interview here.
1. Borderlands is almost done, but don't expect it until October.
Neumann says the target release month is October but they're wrapping up the game production now for certification time. Certification is a process developers go through with the console makers to make sure their game is up to snuff.
2. Sounds very likely we'll see downloadable content.
"During cert, if you have a lot of level designers who have nothing to do--which is pretty common, you pull level design and art off first--they're gonna be making cool shit," Neumann notes hypothetically. "That cool shit, that tends to be what DLC ends up being. It's the stuff we couldn't add to the game because we're making it during cert."
3. The midget pschos enemies make suicide runs.
"It's funny, the band of psychos, the midget psychos, they take enough damage and you leave them alone, they actually try to kamikaze you. They pull a grenade off and run at you. When it's like, baby-armed dude holding a grenade and running at you, it's pretty much... it's gaming bliss, really."
4. Bitch-slapping initiates duels.
"Oh yes. Within just the regular co-op mode, you can walk up to any of your friends at any time, let's say I'm playing with you, I walk up and I literally bitch slap you. And then it tells you that, "yo, that guy just bitch slapped you, what you wanna do about that?"
"So you bitch slap me back, a dome comes down, and we go into a dueling mode. You use all your skills and all your abilities, and that's just the most basic thing."
5. A demo is a possibility.
Neumann says they would "love" to have a demo but there's a lot of factors involved. He says they can't promise on eat this time.
6. Neumann says the gun count is up to millions now.
Even higher than the last count.
This was a great interview. There was actually a lot of new info in it. So many of the previews we read from E3 just rehashed a lot of the same stuff we already know.
Maybe you misunderstood. I meant its nice to know, because if i didnt know, i'd just be sittng around twiddling my thumbs and getting frusterated. =)
Sorry if I phrased it poorly.
lots of good info, usfull info.
good to know that this is the last postpone!
OCTOBER IS NOT TOO FAR MY FREINDS!
Thats quite a nice look into the processes the game has to go through.
Plenty of info on a couple of topics that we haven't heard mentioned before, starting to sound like DLC will be a definate and customization will be pretty good too!
Roll on October!
I can't take it anymore!!! Each article/interview/clip/scrap of info I find about Borderlands has the number of guns going up and up and up and up. My head is about to explode at how freaking amazing it's gonna be to just sit there and look at all the guns you've collected. And then go online to see what your buddies have found! Damn it Doc Brown gun me up to 88 and get me to friggin october!!!!
you have no idea. @_@
Be careful! don't let your expectations get too high or you might get let down by the game!
It's what happened on a large-scale with spore =(
It's always better to expect a shitty game, and get something nice to gold, then to expect a masterpiece and get something "decent" (It'll be a huge let-down)
Truer words have never been spoken my friend. I can't remember how many times I've been looking forward to a game only to be completely pissed off and wanting to call the developers and just ask "WHYYYYYYYYY???????"
Even still, the idea of having more than 10 guns in one game much less close to a million continues to boggle my mind. Let's keep our fingers crossed boys and girls that Gearbox strikes some serious gold.
Have you ever played Hellgate London?
Procederually generated areas and guns, FPS, also over a couple hunded guns.

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at the line on how duels were intiated. It looks like they've been doing a fine job of tying all the loose ends on the game. Most excellent!
The other bit that was VERY enjoyable about the article is I finally got a decent glimpse into the development process. It's nice to know a bit of what the dev's actually DO, instead of just sitting around twiddling your thumbs and getting frusterated that you can't playing the game THIS moment.
