Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, tabletop etc.

Does anyone here play any warhammer games? I was at my local game shop, and all of a sudden I see this huge table with terrain and all kinds of minis and tanks and such. I asked them what it was and they told me it was Warhammer 40k. I watched them for about two hours ( Long game) and decided, "Hey, I like this. Maybe I should get into it." So anyone here have any tips on how to start?

i have warhammer 40k,
i have warhammer 40k, warhammer fantasy, battletech and a slew of other table top game, i enjoy painting the miniatures and also making battle field terrain, and when effort is put the results are amazing to look at. I dont play anymore but with all the miniatures i have thats my retirement hobby.

I have never played the tabletops(but I wish to) however I have played the games, they were great fun. If you wanna start off with a game, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 is a good start off since(at least to me) its a little more simple to manage but if you want to go hardcore, get Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 1 which is a little more intracate with more of a heavy emphasis on base building and its a decent choice since DoW2 requires some heavy graphics cards and processors.

Its a good game, but its very expensive i definately wont be buying anymore after collecting 4 large Warhammer/Warhammer 40k armies over the years. Used to play alot but as time passed friends and I had more things going on and soon we stopped playing. We might go back to it one day. I will try to finish painting my armies up before then.
is the like a board game or something
