Why I Waited Six Years To Buy This Game

PortRoyale2

I can be pretty cheap. If a game comes out that I really want, I’ll often wait for the price to go down. And wait. And wait.

That’s what happened with Port Royale. The first game in the series came out in 2003. It was a business simulation game set in the Caribbean during the age of pirates. It caught my eye because I like good sims. And who doesn’t like pirates?

I was in college at the time so I was particularly cost-conscious. So I waited for the game to drop in price.

$40. Too much.

$30. Getting closer.

$20. Getting my wallet ready.

Then it hit $10! I was about to pounce when I heard that Port Royale 2 was coming out.

billy-maysI decided to wait some more. And wait. And wait. And then various other things happened like, Billie Mays passing away. I forgot about Port Royale 2.

It was almost not to be. Until this weekend when I was perusing Steam. There it was: Port Royale 2 for $5.

What fortune! Finally, an acceptable price. A credit card transaction and a 20 minute download later, my six-year wait was over.

So what’s my take on Port Royale 2? If you like that type of game, it’s worth paying $5. It will keep my attention for a couple weekends, but probably not that much more. It’s a game with some strong points and some flaws.

The trading and economic system is fairly robust. The graphics are adequate. The biggest con is I find the battle system time-consuming and tedious.

So what about you guys? What’s that game you’ve been holding off buying for a while and why?

Hrm

I always enjoyed a quality sim game. I'd probably buy almost any game if it was $5. Anyways, I've been holding off on buying S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky because I want there to be as few bugs as possible when I get it. Shadow of Chernobyl was so amazing, but it took so long for them to iron out the kinks...

Haha!

I'm playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl right now, and with one of the most recent patches, the game still glitches and crashes for no reason (But please, dont let this dissuade anyone from buying the game, just learn to use quicksave)

Oh and joker, if you don't know why it's so glitchy, it's because their AI is so absurdly complex. The original Chernobyl game was delayed for years as they were improving the AI steadily.

Delayed buys....hmm....
I played Fallout 3, but not to the end, and had lost all my data on a reformat, I want to pick it up, but I'm waiting for all the DLC/Expansions to come out. Mothership Zeta is the last Listed, and should be out toward the end of this month.
It's annoying when you can't just sit down and play the game all together, and that bits and pieces keep getting added.

CoD5

When i first played the demo for Call of Duty World at War i was flabbergasted.  I rented it once and checked out a lot of the games serious cool issues (that's a complement by the way).  So when i stopped by to maybe purchase the game and all of its glory, the price was not so glorious.  I am sure that some of you know that it is a whopping $60, pretty much every where you go. I have never really seen such a crazy price like that. Knowing that the game is a great shooter, it also shoots at least me in the wallet.  Waiting for the price to drop has been my only solution to the problem, and is still the only one.

Why is it when you kill a man in war, it's heroism, but when you kill him in the heat of passion, it's murder?

I'm playing the waiting game

I'm playing the waiting game with Will Wright's Spore. I've been dying to play this game since release but I knew it would drop in price eventually since all the critics damned Wright to hell for not making a perfect 11 out of 10 game. Gamestop has it on sale for $19.99 but I feel like it could probably drop even more with a bit more waiting. Not to mention that buying a new game is the last thing I need right now. 4 or 5 games are sitting next to my 360 waiting to be finished and the same goes for around 10 games on my PC. Somehow I've allowed procrastination to enter my video game habits. That's just scary and sad.....

@ chickenbutt222

You can pick up CoD2 for around $10 these days, and it's virutally the same game as World at War, just better, unless you're really that into the multiplayer. Most new games are $60, and CoD happens to be insanely popular, so the price stays that way for a long time.

@ Maverick225

@ Maverick225, I JUST Alt+F4ed out of spore (due to screwing around after save) and came here! Hahaha. I almost made it to the core in a suicide mission. Fail, however :P. Anyways it's a GREAT game.

Sadly no.

The 42 charges is a homage to Douglas Adams, as he pronounced in one of his books that the "Meaning of life, the universe, and everything, is 42"
