Borderlands’ Zombie Stand-in

in Left 4 Dead, Other games

Everybody keeps trying to lump Borderlands in with other games. So far there have been comparisons to Fallout 3, Killzone 2, and Rage. One analogy I haven't seen is to the game that seems to have the most in common with Borderlands: zombie shooter Left 4 Dead.

Continue after the jump for more.

There's a broad similarity between the titles' settings (both are set in post-apocalyptic worlds where out-numbered humans must fight for survival) but I see a real shared spirit in the gameplay.

Like Borderlands, Left 4 Dead is also trying to make 4-player co-op the way to play the game. In Left 4 Dead, up to four players control the game's four main characters. Special features to aid the co-op play include colored outlines visible through walls and thousands of automated voice commands.

Here's the best part. The game is made by Valve. These are the guys that put their name on the map with a little title called Half Life. In my mind, they really proved their ability to master online multiplayer with Team Fortress 2, which I think is the most enjoyable and original PvP experience for PC around right now.

Left 4 Dead is coming out next month. We probably won't be playing Borderlands any time soon but some zombie hunting could be one way to bide the time.

With Valve's multiplayer platform Steam, this game's online co-op could work really really well.
