Pandora is the setting of Borderlands. Rumors of abundant resources lured colonists to the planet but they were disappointed. The desolate world is a barren one. The climate is inhospitable and the native wildlife is even less friendly.

Planet Rotation, Revolution and Climate

Pandora has a 60 hour day. The planet takes ten years to revolve around its sun.1 Pandora was initially settled during its winter season when much of its wildlife was hibernating. After seven earth years, Pandora's climate now heating up as the summer season comes.

Wildlife

As Pandora heats up, the indigenous wildlife is awakening from hibernations. Some are proving hostile to the new human residents of Pandora.2

  Rakks

Rakks are one of the species shaking off their winter slumber. The flying creature are a formidable opponent because of their razor-sharp beaks and talons, stinging tails and tendency to attack in swarms.

  Sea-slug mouthed quadrupeds

The official name of these giant beasts is not yet known. There’s a possibility that the wrack might have a parasitic or symbiotic relationship with the quadrupeds by keeping a hive in their back. 3

A type of sea slug known as an aplysia inspired Gearbox’s design of the mouth of this creature.4
